Transplant Sport Ireland athletes had the pleasure of meeting President Higgins and his wife Sabina in Aras an Uachtarain on Monday December 16th. The group of 28 included liver, kidney, bone marrow, double lung transplant recipients along with members of the U18 Transplant Sport Ireland team and the Living Donor team.
The morning began with a photo opportunity outside the beautiful historic building. This was followed by a very informative tour of the beautiful rooms, all fabulously decorated for Christmas. Afternoon tea was served and the group them met the President who acknowledged the great success of the group at the European Sports Championships in Lisbon this August and at the British Transplant Games held in Nottingham, where our athletes , and U18s enjoyed remarkable success also. The President spoke to the group and posed for photos which was much appreciated.
Then the group continued with the tour only to be surprised by a visit from Sabine Higgins who spoke at length with the athletes and very graciously posed with individuals for photographs. She also presented each one a Christmas card from the Aras. It was Irish hospitality at its best and all agreed that it was a very special day. TSI would like to thank all at the Aras who helped make this such a memorable day including the President and Sabine Higgins along with Luke and Mr Mulligan. We look forward to returning again in the future.
Thank you to all our amazing sponsors for their continued support and support for organ donation… without you all this wouldn’t be possible.
